Bike Beauty | Hazel Hurricanes

May 27, 2011

*Honk-honk* Bike Month starts next week! And doesn’t Hazel Hurricanes (pictured) just look so goshdarnedpleased about it with her adorable helmet?!

She knows that the Mayor of Toronto might consider scrapping bike lanes here, but !HEY-HO! it turns out that Mayor Ford is actually a bike safety advocate. So while Torontonians wait for their Mean Streets to transform into Amsterdam, pleasepleaseplease always strap on that helmet, have good road sense and use those $4 bike lights after dark.

When Hazel isn’t busy squeezing out hand-crafted Ding Dongs, she hams it up as Junior Sports Correspondent for Ponytail Express produced by Ponytail Theory - probably the world’s first fakecast show for the intensely unathletic & uninterested. Even those folks know that unsafe cycling is nerdy bad.

Ride: Acquired from a Bianchi-crazy collector friend who downsized a raging eBay habit, Hazel relishes each day a new rust spot doesn’t eat into the striking celeste frame (ah, celeste: the colour of 1,000 Milanese skies). A nifty pair of nuclear-phlegm-y Adidas nails down the look and keeps her centre of gravity nice n’ low.

Fave Routes: This girl loves the thrill of bombing down the hill on Landsdowne, south from Dundas, which she reckons was like riding a hot knife thru butter just 3 smoothly paved years ago. She can also be found whipping across Spadina and King’s intersecting streetcar tracks, which must feel like what Olympic gold mogul ski-champ Alex Bilodeau goes through.

H&P will be featuring various Bike Beauties & Studs during June Bike Month in the Toronto area. Think you, your bike & helmet are sexy enough? Just holler: bloggerrhea/at/gmail

  1. I don’t think Hazel will need night lights with those glowing sneakers.

  2. [...] Favourite Routes: The Harbord/Wellesley corridor’s slightly safer-feeling alternative to Bloor Street is great for cutting across town. Loves the slalom down Broadview Ave. But not its streetcar tracks and car doors. Or people spinning their pedals in totally inappropriate gears. Or side-by-side cycling on busy streets. Or fellow bikers not looking before turning. Or slower riders jonesing to be first out of the gate at a green light. H&P will be featuring various Bike Beauties & Studs during June Bike Month in the Toronto area.
